we zijn van plan om de 1ste week van januari hier naar toe te gaan. Ik heb meerdere malen er iets van op tv gezien.

Heeft iemand tips of ideeen over bv overnachting op of nabij het complex?

We zijn er in in november 2007 geweest, en we hebben dat gedaan in combinatie met een paar dagen in Kanchanaburi.
We hebben toen een auto met chauffeur gehuurd voor 500 bath, en die heeft ons toen daarnaar toe gebracht( het ligt ongeveer 40 km van Kanchanaburi af).
Je kunt het ook vanuit Bangkok doen, maar dan zijn het dag tochtjes, terwijl in Kanchanaburi best veel te doen is voor 3 dagen.

Zorg wel dat je er rond 10.00 uur bent, dat is de mooiste tijd om er te zijn,.. en geen fel t-shirt dragen..

De onderstaande link naar een recent artikel in National Geographic laat een heel ander beeld zien van de Tiger Temple, waarbij de 'goede bedoelingen' in twijfel worden getrokken. Ben er zelf ook geweest en moet toegeven dat het een bijzondere ervaring is om zo dicht bij die beesten te kunnen komen.

“Care for the Wild International (CWI) published a report in June 2008 that claimed the tigers at the temple are not rescued wild tigers, but are obtained by illegally trading with black market tiger farms. They say the real purpose is making money, not helping tigers. The groups also criticize the Tiger Temple for interbreeding different subspecies of tigers, which they say violates conservation principles. Some visitors have reported what they say is abuse of the tigers. Some locals assert that the temple's stated goal of building a new sanctuary has been repeatedly put back as moving the tigers to a more natural environment would disrupt their ability to charge for photo opportunities with them. Others say the new sanctuary is now much much bigger in scope than initially planned, with room for more tigers, as shown in the photographs of the development. The temple has not stated that it would not allow photo opportunities in the new sanctuary, and the new centre will need visitor income to be maintained.”
